Now, I don’t consider myself a Deacon Blue fan. The ‘woo ooh woo ooh’ of Real Gone Kid just winds me up. BUT I love the album Raintown, I think it is soulful with a ‘depth’ of feeling which works well. If there was a category for ‘album to play when it is overcast’ I would play Raintown. But the one song on there that I really don’t like is Dignity.
I am in the minority with my not liking this song, for many it is inspirational but I just find it patronising. So, here it is, do you like it?

Not sure why you find this patronising at all? As you say, a lot of us do find it inspirational, i.e. you can rise above your humble origins and achieve what you want in life, and way back when I was a kid you were taught to save and never to lend or borrow money.

Sorry Jamie – no agreemen from me on this one. Love that song… One of the few that is guaranteed to make me well up a little bit actually! What makes you see it as patronising? I think it’s a great metaphor for ambition, over-coming the odds and (of course) sticking it to the man. What’s not to like?
